A Galeria  Miki Wick Kim Contemporary Art em Zurich na Suíça tem patente no seu espaço a mais recente instalação do promissor artista Koreano, Kiwon Park. A mostra estará patente até 18 de Julho. Apresentamos o Press Release.

Since the late1980’s Kiwon Park has engaged in questions regarding the perception of space. Park re-creates an existent space into a new illusory abstract space by modifying its formal elements such as texture, surface, color and also the sense of volume. In Park’s work, space itself is the theme as well as the subject matter. His altered spaces contain mere flows of air and movement that are perceived with the sensory organs rather than with the eye.

In Floating, the transparent air cushions line the inside walls of the gallery like a cocoon, dampening sound as well as light. The final installation becomes a sculpture in itself, but on a more fundamental level, this work continues Park’s investigation on interior space as a metaphor for an inner void or a state of nothingness:

“I created my artwork with the exhibition space in mind, one which is refreshingly spacious yet exudes a feeling of profound intensity. I also visualized the effect which would emanate from a transparent artwork set in the middle of this amazing space with a person inside it. It is the floating of air in midair…I am trying to lead the viewers to an experience of returning to a “zero” state, by providing them with space perception. In other words, my main purpose in creating this artwork is to take the viewers into the inner world of a vacuum.

The viewers, the exhibition space and my artwork should coexist with equal importance, each with the other.
This equilibrium thus creates an ideal space”.

Kiwon Park graduated in 1989 with a BFA from Chung-Buk National University in
Korea. His numerous solo exhibitions include Vacuum at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, 2007 and Ruin at Arko Art Center, Seoul, 2006. Important group exhibitions include Secret Beyond the Door, The 51st Venice Biennale, Korean Pavilion, Venice, Italy, 2005 and Void in Korean Art, Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul, 2007.
The artist lives and works in Seoul.
